Positano, Amalfi and Ravello in one day

Three towns, one road, about eight hours. It is a full day, but with a driver handling the bends it works. Here is a realistic timetable and what to do with your time in each town.

The classic Amalfi Coast day from Sorrento strings together Positano, Amalfi and Ravello. Each town has a different character, and knowing what you want from each before you arrive is the key to not feeling rushed.

The quick answer

Leave Sorrento at about 8:30 AM, spend an hour or two in Positano, drive past Praiano and Furore to Amalfi for lunch and the cathedral, then climb to Ravello for the gardens and the view, and return to Sorrento by about 5:30 PM. A tour or private driver makes it work; by bus, three towns in one day is tight.

Is it possible to see Positano, Amalfi and Ravello in one day?

Yes, on a tour or with a private driver: most Sorrento tours do exactly this in 8 to 9 hours.

By public transport it is possible but tiring: bus to Positano, bus on to Amalfi, a local bus up to Ravello and back, with queues at each change. Most independent travelers who try it drop Ravello.

Want all three without the bus queues? The small-group minivan has two hours in Ravello.

What should you do in Positano?

Walk down through the lanes to the Spiaggia Grande, look into the church of Santa Maria Assunta, and save energy for the climb back.

Positano is essentially one long staircase. With an hour, pick the beach and a coffee rather than trying to see everything.

What should you do in Amalfi?

Climb the steps of the Cathedral of Sant'Andrea, see the Cloister of Paradise, and eat: Amalfi is the natural lunch stop.

The Cloister of Paradise is ticketed and open 9:30 AM to 6:45 PM. Lemon everything is on sale in the lanes; a lemon granita is the classic treat. In summer, Amalfi is the most crowded stop.

Where should you eat?

Amalfi or Ravello, depending on your tour's order; ask your driver for a table with a view.

Reviewers often mention drivers booking a lunch spot above the sea, some for about EUR 20. The small-group tour with lunch includes a three-course meal with wine in Ravello.

Which tour fits this itinerary best?

The small-group minivan for two hours in Ravello, the classic tour for a guide and a boat leg, or a private tour to set your own times.
